Union Square, October 7th, 2001.

Terrorism touches us all. Let's not forget that the people that are affected by this type of violence are not different from us (and I take the liberty of saying us, because regardless of how different you and I may be, we are human, and in many ways we are the same).

We live in a new era (since before Sept. 11th, 2001), in which it is increasingly necessary to understand that the world, in spite of its ethnic, social, cultural, political, religious and economic divisions is just one. Resources must be shared, and there are rich countries only because there are poor countries. Life is as valuable in the United States as it is in Afghanistan as it is in Colombia as it is in Rwanda. Every number that identifies a casualty in a terrorist attack, or in a war represents an individual.

That individual, ultimately, is not that different from you and I.
